Charlie's Music Box Featuring Brandon is a music identification game where two teams compete to grab points for identifying the title and artist of music clips ranging from 1940 through the current year.
Setup:
One song clip from each year from 1940 to current is put into the music box along with 10 bonus categories. Also one clip from each decade is randomly selected as a Power Up Year. Clips range over different popular genres and are notable; i.e. Billboard charts, Rolling Stones Greatest list, etc. Players are split up into two teams and a captain is assigned to give answers when it is team help or steals. Brandon is a swing player for both teams and will be able to take a turn on his own for each team and bail each team out before the opposing team gets to steal. A game clock is set for 90 minutes and is started when the first player makes a choice.
Taking a Turn:
A player is called on to pick a year from the music box or have a year randomly selected for double points. If the year picked has already been played, the host will announce the year available before and after that choice for the player to choose from. A Player may also choose to pick from any of the available Categories multiplying their scoring potential by the number of elements in a particular category. The clip is played and a one minute timer starts at the end of the clip. The player who has picked is going for 4 points for each of the elements. If any of those are not guessed correctly, it will go to the team to help for 3 points each. After the team has had its turn at it and either of the elements are still available, then Brandon will attempt to save the team with 2 points per element. If any elements are still available, the opposing team will have 30 seconds for 1 point each element.
If a Power Up year is landed on the team can add up to 3 points per element on the current track. Keep in mind that if either element is missed then the Power Up points are available with the steal. The captain makes the final decision on how many, if any, Power Up points are bid.
Conclusion of the Game:
When the game clock expires, the current round is finished and the final scores are read.
Notes About The Game:
Brain Power only. Please don't use any electronic devices to identify the songs. It's just a game.
There are no penalties for wrong guesses. When it comes to the artist, the correct answer is the main artist credited to the song, the "featured" or "with" are not necessary to be correct, but also won't be accepted as the correct answer. In the case of a duet where artist and artist are named, both are required.
All efforts are made not to include the title of the song in the clip or use the same artist twice in the same game. Also, many genres are represented across the years.
When guessing an artist, if the singer's name is given, but the clip is credited to a group, the group name is the correct answer and vice versa.
It is advised that the player who has picked the track and is up on their own first key down while the track is playing. If a team member gets in before the individual and gives any input on the song then it has gone to team help.
