21 Trivia

Players are divided into two teams with a captain. Each team, in turn, is asked a general knowledge question. Upon correctly answering the question, a card is revealed from the deck. If the question is not answered correctly, it is passed to the other team for control. The objective of the 21 part of the game is to see who gets 21 first or comes the closest without busting. The team that comes the closest without busting wins the points for that round. It should be an exciting fun-filled hour.

Anagrams with Anders

Try to find the anagrams on my list in the words I give you. There are ten words and each team gets two minutes to guess as many anagrams on my list as possible.
Points are given for every correct answer and if you can find an anagram I’ve missed that uses all the letters, you get a bonus!
Most of the anagrams will hopefully be easy to find but some are a bit obscure.

Ghost

Ghost is a game in which players take turns building words. The host begins by listing people in the order of play. The first person on the list is then asked to give a letter to start a word. Each player then adds a letter to what already exists. Words consisting of three letters or less are not counted against players. The idea is not to complete a word when it is your turn but to keep it going. Proper nouns, that is, names of persons and places are not permitted. If you add the final letter to a legitimate word in an American-English dictionary, whether intentional or not, you will receive the next letter of the word GHOST. Your first mistake or stroke of bad luck earns you the G, your second earns you the H, and so on. When you receive the T, you’re out of the game. The last player not to have received their T is the winner. During game play, you can try bluffing, but if you are challenged by the next player and you do not have a word in mind, you get a letter. If you don’t think that the player before you has a legitimate word in mind, you can challenge that player. If they are correct, you get the letter. Each time you are not present when it is your turn to play you will receive a letter. If you leave a game early, transferring your score to another person who just entered the room is not permitted. No online searches or searches of any kind are to be done unless a word has been questioned. You have to play only using your vocabulary and word knowledge. If you arrive late, and someone has already been given a letter or more, in fairness to all players, you will start with the letters of the player who is closest to becoming a GHOST. Therefore, arriving late is a strategic mistake.

After the host reads the question, each team is given a set amount of time to discuss possible answers. When time is called, the captain either chooses an answer which is given in the form of a question, just as on the TV show, or assigns a team member to do so. The other difference between the TV show and Jeopardy here on Out-Of-Sight is that on TV the winner wins cash; while here on Out-Of-Sight, we win points and have fun.

www.Huh

This is a game of Who, What, Where and When. Teams will be given up to nine clues to try and figure out either who I am, what I am, where I am or when events happened. The fewer the clues, the more points your team will receive.

What the Word

Welcome all to, What the Word!!!!!!!
What’s your guess? This is a fun guessing game where your rotating, team clue-giver gives three words as a clue to come up with the desired word/words that have been given. For example, if the word I am looking for is, “Apple”, a clue-giver might give, red, McIntosh, teacher, or three other words they feel would get their team to say the word, “Apple”. A wrong guess has the game play pass to the other team. A fourth word clue is permitted if neither team comes up with the desired answer on the first try. Clue-givers must be careful not to give more than three word clues, or a point will be deducted. Sometimes, it will be difficult to only give three words as your clue, when we all know there is so much more to say! This game is an exercise in choosing your words carefully, and keeping it brief!

3. At the start of each round, a team will be given the first letter of the word.
4. The team will then have 4 chances to guess the word.
5. On each guess, the host will reveal if any letter is in the correct position, as well as letters that are in the word but not in the correct position.
6. If the team can't guess the word in 4 turns, the other team will have a chance to steal.
7. Plurals and Proper nouns will not be used as a word.

1st Guess: 25 points

1. The team gets a vowel volcano and lucky letter if they solve the word on their first guess.
2. The team gets a random power-up if they solve the word on their second guess.
3. If a team solves a word as a steal, they will have a chance to choose whether they want 5 points or a random power-up.

Wordle

The very popular New York Times word game (Wordle) is coming to Out-Of-Sight. Every third Tuesday at 8 pm eastern in the Games4U room, Nat will challenge your intellect on solving five letter words. It is not as easy as it sounds.

Words Within Words

Words Within is a round robin style anagram game where individuals
play against each other for high score.

SETUP:

There will be at least 20 words for the computer to choose from at the
start of a game. All player's names are entered into the Anagrams
player's list. Names are randomly sorted just before the start of the
game and a player is chosen to go first.

PLAYING A WORD:

A word is selected by the computer and revealed. The player who was
chosen to go first or who follows the player who ended the previous
word is up. A player needs to give at least a four letter anagram of the
current word for it to count. Points are awarded by the length of the
word. A turn is 45 seconds.
If a word is given and is not an anagram of the current word in play,
not a word found in the dictionary or is a repeat, that player gets to
choose another word until their time runs out. After that they will
receive zero points for that turn and a strike on the current word.
The current word in play is ended if 3 strikes in a row are
accumulated or if all players agree that there are no more 5 letter
words.

The game is ended after 20 words have been played or after the current
player's turn has ended after the game timer runs out.

Notes About the Game:

As in all games, brain power only. No use of electronic devices of
any kind to figure out words.

Collin's Official Scrabble dictionary is used to validate words. All
words labeled as a part of speech (including those listed of foreign
origin, and as archaic, obsolete, colloquial, slang, etc.) are
permitted with the exception of the following: words always
capitalized, abbreviations, prefixes and suffixes standing alone,
words requiring a hyphen or an apostrophe.
