Wheel of Fortune is based on the TV game show and is played with 2 teams of players with a captain giving instructions to the host.
Gameplay:
A round starts with a category being revealed. Each round will have two puzzles in the same category. Teams will alternate starting each of these puzzles. The host will tell the teams how many words and the length of each word in the puzzles. Also when the category is revealed, it will also be stated if the category is a bonus category and what will get the bonus 10 points. For example, the category can be "Person" and it will be stated that the bonus is who this puzzle is referring to. The puzzle is solved as "The first president of the United States." Then the bonus answer will be George Washington.
Each turn starts with a spin of the wheel for a guess of a consonant. The only time the wheel is not spun is if all consonants are revealed and control goes to the opposing team because of a wrong guess. A 90 second timer starts when an amount is revealed or control is passed to the opposing team.
When a consonant is correctly guessed and there is still time on the turn, the options are to buy a vowel, solve the puzzle or spin for a new turn. If time has run out then the only options are to solve the puzzle or spin, if there are still consonants available, if not then an attempt to solve must be successful or control will go to the opposing team.
When buying a vowel, the controlling team must have 3 points in their active score for it to be an option. Once a vowel is given, 3 points are deducted and if the vowel is in the puzzle time is paused wwhile the puzzle is revealed. If it is incorrect, control is passed to the opposing team.
Each team accumulates their own points for a puzzle and have to solve the puzzle to bank the points.
The titular Wheel of Fortune is a roulette-style wheel mechanism with 24 spaces, most of which has points valued from 1 to 9 plus a single 10 and 20 point wedge. The wheel also features one Bankrupt wedge and one Lose a Turn, both of which forfeit the team's turn, with the former also eliminating any points the team has accumulated within the round. A "Free Spin" token is placed on top of a 3 point wedge. if the wheel stops on Free Spin then whichever team gives a correct consonant will receive one free spin token to be used later no matter how many consonants are revealed. The wedge that had the free spin token will be worth 3 points subsequently until the token is used then it is placed back on that wedge.
After 80 minutes of gameplay the host will give one final spin of the wheel and the team currently in control wil give a consonant for the value of the spin. Vowels don't cost anything in this part of the game, but the team gains no points for vowel guesses. If successful in revealing any letter the controlling team gets 30 seconds to solve the puzzle. If the puzzle is not solved then control with one letter guess alternates between the two teams until the puzzle is solved.
The winning team is the team with the highest score after the final puzzle has been guessed.
